Telxon Extinction Eminent

People like what they know. It’s always been that way, it always will be. Familiarity doesn’t only offer comfort and stability; mastery of technology can increase productivity and enhance the bottom line. So, when a company buys a certain brand of computer or scanner (wink), they like to know that they will be able to use it a long time, so that everyone is familiar with it and its use becomes second nature.

About 10-15 years ago, Telxon put out their most popular line of scanners, and everyone took notice. Not just the users, but manufacturers too. 610s, 701s, 710s and 960s became the industry standard, and everyone used them. Many companies have moved on to newer technology (linear imagers and 2D scanners), but some have continued to use those same Telxon scanners, because they are - you guessed it - familiar.

When Telxon was bought out by Symbol, people worried about being able to continue to use their Telxon scanners. How would they be repaired? How could they get replacements?? Of course there were manufacturer promises to keep the scanners active on the market for a few years so companies could gradually introduce new bar code scanners, but that deadline has long since come and gone.

Luckily, there are companies out there like DBK Concepts who know the Telxon line in and out and can keep on repairing and replacing units. But how long will that last? We hope as long as there’s a market. The problem is that the Telxon units are disappearing from the market. In the past we had no trouble getting Telxons. When a company moved on to newer technology, we would just bid for their old units. Sometimes we got them, sometimes not, but there were always enough to keep our customers happy.

Now these precious Telxon bar code scanners are being bought up, not so that they can be refurbished or used for parts. No, it’s so that those bar code scanners can be destroyed. Why do that? The goal is to rid the market of these items and force users to upgrade their technology. Thus the resistance begins.

DBK wants your Telxons! If you are looking to sell, call us. If you are in need of repairs, call us. While we have collected lots of stock over the years, there are still those units that are hard to come by. We are always looking to buy something. So call us 1-800-725-7226, there’s a good chance we want your units.

Familiarity with Telxon is the common bond of this industry. At tradeshows, reminiscing about the days of Telxon is how many business relationships are formed. Telxon units may be dinosaurs, but we don’t want to see their extinction. They are too big to make commemorative key chains out of.
